AIIMS Mangalagiri Observes World Sickle Cell Day 2025 with Awareness Rally and Public Engagement

To mark World Sickle Cell Day 2025, the Departments of Health and Family Welfare and Tribal Welfare, Government of Andhra Pradesh, in collaboration with the Department of Transfusion Medicine, AIIMS Mangalagiri, organized an awareness rally and programme on 19th June 2025 at the AIIMS Auditorium, Mangalagiri.

The programme was graced by Shri M. Mallikarjuna Nayak, IAS, Secretary to the Government (Social Welfare & Tribal Welfare – FAC), who attended as the Chief Guest. He was joined by a distinguished panel of dignitaries including:

  • Smt. Saraswathi, Additional Director, Tribal Welfare
  • Dr. Prasanna, Joint Director, Blood Safety, SCAEM
  • Dr. Sonia Mohan, Consultant, Blood Cell
  • Dr. Vijayalakshmi, District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO)
  • Dr. Ranga Rao, District Coordinator of Hospital Services (DCHS)
  • Prof. (Dr.) Shreemanta Kumar Dash, In-charge Director, AIIMS Mangalagiri
  • Prof. (Dr.) D. Rama Mohan, Joint Medical Superintendent, AIIMS Mangalagiri

The dignitaries reiterated the government’s steadfast commitment to eliminating Sickle Cell Disease, aligning with the national vision articulated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India.

The rally, which included enthusiastic participation from students, healthcare workers, and members of the tribal communities, was aimed at enhancing public awareness and promoting solidarity in the fight against this inherited blood disorder.
